Electric vehicles are much more pleasant to ride because they are almost silent and very easy to control. They make no fumes and no smells (so you could drive around indoors if you had the space), which makes them zero-emissions vehicles. This is obviously good for your immediate environment, but it's also better for the planet, as electrical power is far more efficient than petrol.

Because electric vehicles have so few consumable parts (ie things that wear out) in comparison with petrol vehicles, there is a lot less that can go wrong and fewer items that need maintenance. It’s possible a properly cared-for e-motive could go for years without needing spares or repairs.

You can buy e-motive from your local dealer, or – very soon – direct from this site. To find your nearest dealer, click ‘Where to buy’ in the main left-hand menu. Then simply enter your postcode to return the address of your nearest e-motive seller. You can test-drive the e-motives before you buy, and get first-hand knowledge and advice from people who know the vehicles inside-out.

We will process your purchase and send your scooter(s) to your nearest dealer within 14 days of your order being placed. Your dealer will then contact you and arrange delivery to your home (cost varies depending on distance), or you can collect from the dealership – whichever you prefer.

e-motives are designed for minimal maintenance. The vehicles have no internal combustion engine, fuel, lubricants, ignition plugs, carburettors etc, so there is a lot less to go wrong. The modular components are practically maintenance-free, and the absence of belts and chain make e-motives easier to maintain even than other electric scooters.

Yes. Your e-motive scooter's electrical systems are waterproofed, so there is no danger when the scooter gets wet. However, as with all motorised transport, some parts should be kept dry. Avoid pouring or spraying water directly into the charger outlet, the controller or the internal battery set when washing. The lack of engine oil and exhaust smoke keeps the need for cleaning to a minimum: just wipe down the panels and the wheels occasionally.

It’s easy. You simply plug the charger into any domestic 240V wall socket, and connect the output cable to a connector under the scooter’s seat.

The battery's lifespan is up to three years. However, this will be reduced if an insufficient charge level is retained for a long period of time. Depending on the user's operation, the battery should last between 1000 (80% discharged) and 2000 (50% discharged) cycles.

No, e-motive electric scooters are exempt from the Road Fund Licence.

No, e-motive electric scooters are doubly exempt from the London Congestion Charge: all scooters and motorbikes, and all zero-emissions vehicles, can ride and park in central London without charge.

You won’t need to take any further tests to ride the e1 if you have a full UK driving licence that was issued before 1 February 2001. If your licence was issued after this date, or if you buy the e1+, e3 and e5 models, you will need to take a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) test.

The CBT is a full day's training with an instructor. It teaches important safety theory and riding skills. It includes practising manoeuvres on site, learning about road craft, road conditions and hazards, and going on the road with the instructor advising by radio link.

You need to obtain a UK provisional driving licence before taking a CBT course, if you don’t already have a full UK licence. After successful completion of the CBT, you’ll receive a certificate valid for two years. After two years you’ll need to renew your CBT certificate with another test, or take a full motorcycle test. e1: You need to be at least 16 to drive and have a provisional UK licence. Once you’ve taken your CBT, you can ride an e1 with ‘L’ plates. You can't take passengers or drive on motorways until you have a full UK motorcycle licence.

If you have a full UK driving licence taken before Feb 2001 no further tests are needed. Holders of a full UK driving licence also do not need to have 'L' plates.

e1+, e3, e5: You need to be at least 17, with a full UK driving licence and a CBT. You can then ride with ‘L’ plates until you obtain your full UK motorcycle licence. Yes, in the UK it is illegal to ride these vehicles without a crash helmet. Buy your crash helmet from a proper bike shop – not the internet – and try on several before you buy. It’s important that your helmet fits properly and is comfortable. Full-face helmets offer more protection than open-face helmets, but the latter can be useful in town where all-round vision is a priority.
